Rs 900-desk allowance for CSS officers gets abolished; Govt decides to give extra benefits to women employees with disabilities
THE government on Wednesday issued an office memorandum stating in clear terms that the desk allowance given to desk officers belonging to Central Secretariat Service (CSS) is no longer available. “Desk Allowance stands abolished”, said the OM with the subject titled “Implementation of government’s decision on the recommendations of the Seventh Central Pay Commission- Abolishing Desk Allowance - Reg”. ACC gives its nod to 3 extension of additional charges; all officers belong to non-CSS category
FIRST give additional charge and then extend their tenures. In fact, the extension of additional charge tenure has become more of a rule than an exception so far as the appointments of the officers belonging to non-Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) are concerned. Only on Wednesday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) took up four appointment-related cases, and in three out of four, it gave its nod to the proposal of extension of additional charges. The officers whose cases were taken up on Wednesday belonged to NITI Aayog, Central Water Commission and IIM, Rohtak. Here are the details:

Rly officiers to meet Dr Caprez of UNESCO
Officials of ministry of railways will hold intensive discussions with an expert team of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) led by Dr Gion Caprez next week to ensure Matheran Light Railway (MLR) a World Heritage Site. Mr Caprez will be in India from 24 - 31 October 2009. Matheran is the tiniest hill station of India, located on the Western Ghats range (about 110 km from Mumbai) in Maharashtra at an elevation of 800 m above sea level. This hill station was connected with Neral station on planes situated nearly midway of the Mumbai-Pune road by constructing a unique two feet narrow gauge railway track by Abdul Hussain, son of the business tycoon, Sir Adamjee Peerbhoy of Mumbai. The construction started in 1904 was finally opened to traffic in 1907.
