13 things to know about govt appointments on compassionate grounds

YOU must have heard about instances of government appointments on compassionate grounds. But who is eligible and who’s not? Can compassionate appointment be made against a future vacancy? And, can dependents of a deceased government employee who committed suicide be considered? What’s about a "married son" to be appointed on compassionate grounds? Read more about 13 such FAQs:
1) Why is there a government provision for appointments on compassionate grounds?
The objective of the scheme is to grant appointment on compassionate grounds to a dependent family member of a government servant who has died while in service or who is retired on medical grounds before attaining the age of 55 years (57 years for erstwhile Group “D” employees), thereby leaving the family in penury and without any means of sustainable livelihood so as to provide relief to the family of the government servant concerned from financial destitution and to help it get over the emergency.
2) Is the Scheme applicable to member of Armed Forces?
Yes. Dependent family member of an Armed Force personnel can be considered for appointment against a civilian post within any establishment/organization under the ministry of defence, if the armed force personnel:
a) Dies during service; or
b) Is killed in action; or
c) Is medically boarded out and is unfit for civil employment
3) Can compassionate appointment be made against a Group 'A' or Group 'B' post?
No.
4) Can compassionate appointment be made to a Group 'A' or Group 'B' post if the dependent has higher qualifications?
No.
5) If compassionate appointment cannot be given in a year, can it be considered in the next recruitment year?
Yes. There is no time limit for compassionate appointment. A request for compassionate appointment can be carried forward to next years, but the total compassionate appointment made in a year should not exceed 5% limit of the direct recruitment Group C quota.
6) Can compassionate appointment be made against a future vacancy?
No. Compassionate appointment can be made only vacancy is available for that purpose.
7) Can dependents of a deceased government employee who committed suicide be considered for compassionate appointment?
Yes. If the family satisfies the criteria to be considered for compassionate appointment.
8) Whether upper age limit prescribed for a post can be relaxed while making appointment on compassionate ground?
Yes. Upper age limit can be relaxed wherever found to be necessary.
9) Whether lower age limit prescribed for a post can be relaxed while making appointment on compassionate ground?
No. The lower age limit cannot be relaxed below 18 years of age.
10) Who are considered dependent Family Members
Dependent Family Member means:
a) spouse;
b) son (including adopted son); or
c) daughter (including adopted daughter); or
d) brother or sister in the case of unmarried government servant; or
e) member of the Armed Forces, who was wholly dependent on the Government servant/member of the Armed Forces at the time of his death in harness or retirement on medical grounds, as the case may be.
11) Whether a “married daughter” can be considered for compassionate appointment?
Yes, but subject to conditions:
a) That she was wholly dependent on the government servant at the time of his/her death in harness or retirement on medical grounds
b) She must support other dependents members of the family.
12) Whether “married son” can be considered for compassionate\appointment?
No. A married son is not considered dependent on a government servant.
13) Whether "married brother" can be considered for compassionate appointment?
No. A married brother is not considered dependent on a government servant.

  7. hai my father in law is state government employee who works in gandhi hospital Hyderabad as attender he is expired due to heart attack and he is having three daughters and 2 daughters are married and 1 is not married,my mother-in-law is totally dependent on 2nd Daughter and father in laws last wish to get his job to 2nd married daughter ,plz let me know the procedure of appintment for compassionate ground

  16. Dear Sir, My father had worked in Ordnance Clothing Factory, Avadi, Chennai.When he was on the service he dead in heart attack.   21. Sir, one person was appointed as a attender in govt of AP on compassionate ground. But he is not caring the dependents diseased govt. employee. He is also not attending his job and not getting salary. He wants to leave the job. Whether the appointment can be given to another family member on his consent. Please clarify

  30. Why there is no compassionate ground job for Group A and B officers?
    If the spouse of Group A/B officer is educated but unemployed and has children.what can the spouse do for her living after death of his/her employed partner

    1. hey sasi kumbar ny bros case is same as que ask by u my father was group b officer after my father deth his department give compansite appintment to my brother as primary teacher after compaliton of three year he apply for continutation and permant scale at that time they have come to know that compantite appointment is given only to group c and d employee they give notice to us later that its six year over now they taken action of tenmination now my bro complted 10 year service and case is pending in mat court

  35. My father was SDM at LIC. He recently passed away. I applied for the compassionate job. but my elder brother has sent a lawyer notice stating that he has an objective giving the job to me. So these LIC people are just dragging things. My brother left our family long back and lived on his own and now he is in abroad. He doesn't need the job. And he also doesn't want me getting the job as he is seeking revenge on our family. Tried talking to him but all in vain . What can I do now. Anybody pls help

  36. My dad recently passed away. He was 53 and was SDM at LIC. I applied for compassionate job. My elder brother who lives in abroad has sent a lawyer notice stating that he has an objection giving the job to me. So the LIC people are just dragging things and not doing anything. My mom and sister want me to take up the job as I am currently unemployed. My brother left our family long back and went on his own and was back on my dad's death. He doesn't need the job instead he want to seek revenge on our family by sending these lawyer notices to LiC by not getting me the job. What can I do . Any one pls help me. What will be the solution for this.

  37. ANSHU ANAND: My dad passed away on 26 March 2008. He had work in Railway work shop Jamalpur. His name is Sh. Ashok Prasad. At the time of my father expired i m minor. On 04.04.2016 i m become major and i had applied for compassionate ground appointment.My name is Anshu Anand in all the document and every where. Now Railway welfare inspector tell me to publish in three news paper regarding your father name is Ashok Prasad and your name is Anshu Anand. Please guide me in this matter and help me for getting job.
