Know Your IAS: New LBSNAA director Sanjeev Chopra


Sanjeev Chopra, 1985 batch West Bengal cadre IAS, presently in the cadre, has been appointed as the new director of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). The vacancy arose as the present LBSNAA director, Upma Chawdhry, a 1983 batch IAS, was appointed as the new secretary of the department of youth affairs. allotted the West Bengal cadre. A postgraduate in political science and also an MBA, Chopra early in his IAS career — between 1995 and 1998 — served as deputy director in LBSNAA. For a short period, he became a consultant with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) but then rejoined as deputy director in LBSNAA and served from September 1998 to July 1999, according to the records available with the DoPT. 
In his cadre — West Bengal, Chopra served as secretary in the ministries of food processing and agriculture, and then as principal secretary in the ministries like labour and agriculture. Recently, he was an additional secretary of West Bengal’s industries and commerce ministry.
Among the IAS officers, there are two Sanjeev Chopra though, the other being a 1990 batch Odisha cadre officer. 
Meanwhile, in another development, 2005 batch Bihar cadre IAS, Ajay Yadav, who till recently was the private secretary to the Minister of External Affairs, MJ Akbar, has been appointed as the officer on special duty (OSD) to the minister of consumer affairs and food and public distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan, at the level of a GoI deputy secretary. 
Also, Arun Kumar Panda, 1984 batch Odisha cadre IAS and present secretary of the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), has been entrusted with additional charge of the post of secretary, department of health and family welfare between December 22, 2018 and January 6, 2019, when incumbent secretary Ms Preeti Sudan is on leave. Further, Ajay Prakash Sawhney, 1984 batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS and secretary in the ministry of electronics and information technology, has been given additional charge of the post of secretary, department of telecommunications, for a period between December 22, 2018 and January 6, 2019, when incumbent secretary Ms Aruna Sundararajan is on leave.

  1. Hope Sanjeev sir will bring lbsnaa training at par to need of current times and end mindless regimentation and mediocrity which is order of day there currently. Past director did much harm to institute by her incompetence and all pervasive aloofness
