1.3 lakh job-seekers’ future at stake? Many take to social media route to express anger against SSC chairman, officials

ON FRIDAY, social media platforms saw an unusual hashtag, #saveSSCcgle2013. It’s about CGLE 2013 examination conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and meant for graduates aspiring to be Central secretariat assistants, income-tax inspectors, excise inspectors etc. Many of 1.3 lakh applicants who crossed the tier-I of the written examination have now aired their anger against SCC officials including its chairman and IAS officer…
Amitava Bhattacharya for their inept handling of a year-long examination that is on the verge of getting scrapped after it got embroiled in cheating, investigations, legal battles etc. Some of them are now planning to stage a protest in Delhi on January 28, 2014 after SCC reportedly told the court on Wednesday that it favours restructuring the examination which effectively means the scrapping of the ongoing Common Graduate Level Examination (CGLE 2013) that began early last year.
“AB was appointed by PM and AB is hailing from Gujarat. Both @pmoindia and @narendramodi have to take the responsibility” one applicant tweeted referring to Amitava Bhattacharya, a Gujarat cadre IAS who had earlier worked as secretary to UPSC. Others are more direct against Bhattacharya. BoI could not independently verify the authenticity of some of those allegations and decides not to reproduce those comments.
But a few months ahead of the general elections, this social media protest, if not handled well, could potentially snowball into yet another political issue.
In fact, in SCC’s official site, Bhattacharya leaves a message asking applicants to send their grievances in a structured format rather than emailing him. On SCC’s home page, the following is written about CGLE 2013. “The Delhi Police/CBI and other investigative agencies were investigating a number of complaints regarding conduct of CGLE 2013 exam. A letter from Delhi Police in this regard has recently been received. Further conduct of the CGL Examination, 2013 is under consideration of the government.” The SCC comes under the DoPT which will finally take the call on whether to scrap the exam altogether.
Early this month, some students staged a protest in front of the SSC headquarters located in New Delhi’s CGO complex. “I am extremely concerned about the future of candidates”, Bhattacharya reportedly told a delegation of demonstrators. But many who are leading the protest say their future can’t hang in balance because a few people adopted methods of cheating, leading to legal battles and probes.
“We worked hard for a year and passed the exams. now SSC is cancelling the exam, please save our future…” this Tweet by one Ranjan Singh sums it up.
You can post your comments and narrate your side of the story. But kindly don't use any intemperate language if you wish your comments to be read by India's top bureaucrats and policy-makers.

  1. Nothing but government inefficiencies. Govt institutes need more managerial skills. Thank God, UPSC is still doing well

  13. Our hard work of two years is going in vain because of SSC, they want to save their officials who were involved in leakage of questions paper. If you want to remove cheaters from exam you can take tier 3 or re-exam of tier 2. Why to scrap whole process. .

  14. Even if there are half cheaters, rest are genuine candidates. so paper shouldnt be scrapped

  15. why innocents are punished... filter the cheater by tier3

  21. SSC can't put the Future of lakhs of candidates on stake.. because of few cheaters.. Instead it should catch the culprits including the officials of SSC who are allegedly involved in this... WE ARE NOT CHEATERS... Why should we suffer? We have given our whole year to this exam and have worked day and night for it.... So,
    Please save SSC CGL -2013.

  24. I sacrificed a lot for SSC. I was in a job and despite everyone in my family including my husband forbiding me to leave job, I left my job by breaking bond and had to give 50k for that, just because I wanted to put my all efforts and be sure that I clear SSC. Now I am suffering, my family is suffering, My money, time, my pvt job, all gone.1 whole year of hard work, all gone.. Just because few culprits cheated, every genuine candidate is suffering. Why? For few if hard labor of lakhs of candidates is sacrificed, these failures and culprits will find a way to always stake future of others because they dont pass. Why? If ssc is cancelled, none but the culprits will win. They will think, ki job mila nahi to kisi ko lene bhi nahi diye, itne bade organization ko ungliyon pe nacha diya. A wrong example will be set. Please save SSC CGL-2013, please save life of many, dont sacrifice lakhs of innocents for a handful of culprits..

  25. why should we suffer the brunt of SSC's incompetence..we worked hard for 2 years..and this is the fruit we get..i have lost all faith in this system and government.

  26. If SSC wants to conduct the exams honestly then they should try it from 2014. Cancellation of 2013 examination will put a question mark on the authenticity of the commission.

  27. Why not SSC be cancelled/scrapped which was failed just like League of Nations which failed in eradicating WW II??? SSC not able to control cheating in examinations because of corruption within... Ineffective SSC..
