Quota for Economically Weaker Sections will be valid for any Central govt job notified on or after Feb 1, says DoPT


THE CENTRAL government on Saturday issued an office memorandum (OM) notifying 10 percent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) for civil posts in the Government of India, adding that the quota will be applicable for all direct recruitment vacancies to be notified on or after February 1, 2019. “Detailed instructions regarding operation of roster and procedure for implementation of EWS reservation will be…

The OM further said that instructions regarding reservations in employment and admission to educational institutions will be issued by DoPT and the ministry of human resources development (HRD) respectively.
The government in the recently held Parliament session passed a bill to bestow 10 percent quota for the upper castes on economic criteria. To qualify, the person must be outside the existing scheme of quota for SC, ST et al, and the family’s gross annual income has to be below Rs 8 lakh. 
“Income shall include from all sources i.e. salary, agriculture, business, profession etc. and it will be income for financial year prior to the year of application. 
Also, any person whose family owns any of the following will be excluded from the quota system:
A) 5 acres of agricultural land and above;
B) Residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. and above; 
C) Residential plot of 100 sq. yard and above in notified municipalities;
D) Residential plot of 200 sq. yard and above in areas other than notified municipalities;
E) The income certificate is to be issued by an officer not below the rank of a Tehsildar in states or Union Territories.
