Know Your Babu: New Chairman Railway Board, VK Yadav


VINOD Kumar Yadav, the General Manager of South Central Railway, is the new Chairman of Railway Board. The appointments cabinet of the committee (ACC) on Monday night accorded its approval for Yadav's appointment in place of Ashwani Lohani who retired yesterday. Here are 10 things you may like to know about the new CRB, VK Yadav:

1. Till he was appointed as the Chairman of Railway Board, Yadav was serving as the General Manager of South Central Railway headquartered in Secunderabad. As Chairman, Railway Board, he will be an ex-officio principal secretary to the Government of India. 
2. A 1980 batch Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Yadav began his career in the Indian Railways as an assistant electrical engineer. 
3. Later, he served as the chief electrical engineer in Northern Railway and Divisional Railway Manager in Lucknow division. 
4. He also served as additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operation) in Delhi division.
5. He was also Group General Manager (electrical) in Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited.
6. Yadav was the project director in International Centre for Advancement of Manufacturing Technology at United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
7. He was also on a deputation to the Government of India where he served as as a director in the department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP). 
8. According to reports, Yadav’s role in South Central Railway becoming the first zone on Indian Railways to complete 100% LED lighting of its railway stations, service buildings and residential quarters, received appreciations in Delhi.
9. Yadav originally belongs to Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. 
10. Yadav did his electrical engineering from Allahabad University and later, he did an MBA from Australia’s La Trobe University.
