Know Your Babu: Andhra Pradesh’s new chief secretary Anil Chandra Punetha


THE Andhra Pradesh government on Friday announced that the state’s new chief secretary -- Anil Chandra Punetha, a 1984 batch IAS. He was serving as the chief commissioner of land administration (CCLA) in the state. Here below are more about the new Andhra chief secretary:

A) Anil Chandra Punetha is a 1984 batch IAS officer belonging to Andhra Pradesh cadre.
B) Originally hailing from Uttarakhand, he was allotted Andhra cadre after getting selected as an IAS.
C) In the cadre, he has worked in various departments including agriculture, health and family welfare, horticulture, rural development, education, to name a few. 
D) In late 1990s, he also served as the managing director of the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Board. 
E) Punetha participated in a number of short training programmes including the one on agriculture and rural development from Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, one on rural energy from TERI, on financial sector reforms from IIM-Ahmedabad, apart from courses on ethics and governance and public private partnership (PPP). 
F) In addition to his mother tongue Hindi, he is well-versed with three other languages —English, Telugu and Sanskrit. 
G) A graduate in economics, he also did masters in rural development. Punetha also holds an LLB degree.
H) He will retire on May 31, 2019.
