PRIME Minister Narendra Modi on Monday asked India’s future diplomats to be more tech-savvy with an urge to engage more with diaspora, who, according to the PM, are increasingly becoming important stakeholders in the conduct of foreign relations. Here are five takeaways of the PM’s meeting with 39 officer trainees of Indian Foreign Service, currently undergoing training in the Foreign Service Institute:
1. PM stressed upon the importance of representing India abroad in the context of India’s rich history, culture and traditions.
2. IFS officers should remain alive not only to the current national priorities, but also future requirements for national development.
3. PM encouraged the officer trainees to become more tech-savvy.
4. PM asked the officer-trainees to engage fully with the state governments and diaspora, who, as PM articulated are increasingly important stakeholders in the conduct of foreign relations.
5. PM also spoke with two diplomats from Bhutan, also currently under training at the Foreign Service Institute.
