OBITUARY: First Commissioner of Delhi Police Jayendra Nath Chaturvedi died in Varanasi on Monday

FIRST Commissioner of Delhi Police Jayendra Nath Chaturvedi is no more. A former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of 1951 batch, Chaturvedi breathed his last on Monday in Varanasi. Terming him as “a highly celebrated officer”, present Uttar Pradesh DGP OP Singh posted a social media message from his official handle on Monday confirming Chaturvedi's death in the holy town of Varanasi. Chaturvedi also served as...
the Director General of Police in UP as well. He served as the chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) too.
The celebrated officer will, however, be remembered for his innings as the first Commissioner of Police, Delhi (July 1978 to January 1980), one of the most sought-after posts for UT cadre IPS officers, subsequently. Current Delhi Commissioner of Police Amulya Patnaik Yogesh Gupta, who took over on January 1, 2017, is the 21st in the list of Commissioners of Police, Delhi. Other notable Commissioners of Police include Ved Marwah (1985-88), Ajay Raj Sharma (1999-2002), KK Paul (2004-2007), BS Basi (2013-2016)  et al.
As very less information is available about the departed police officer, BoI here requests its esteemed readers to add more about him in the comment section below.
