Secretary Reshuffle: More about 16 new secretaries in DEA, revenue, I&B, tourism, sports etc.

THE Central government on Friday night undertook a major secretary-level reshuffle virtually changing the entire administrative set-up of the ministry of finance, and appointing new NHAI head and secretaries in ministries such as information and broadcasting, corporate affairs, tourism and sports. Here is the list of 16 new secretaries, their qualifications and date of retirement:

1. Revenue secretary and 1980 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as secretary, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) in place of Rajiv Mehrishi who is retiring on August 31. That means, the Das will be the man to anchor the next two Budgets -- 2016 and 2017, as he is retiring only on February 28, 2017. A MA in history, Das has experiences in the ministry of finance – as joint secretary, then additional secretary and then special secretary in between November 2008 and December 2013. 2. 1981 batch Gujarat cadre IAS and present secretary in the department of financial services Hashmukh Adhia has been appointed as secretary in department of revenue in place of Das. He is also an accountant and by the way a PhD in Yoga. He is retiring in November 2018. (Read more: Accountant, IAS and a PhD in Yoga).
3. 1981 Punjab cadre IAS and secretary in the ministry of corporate affairs Ms Anjuly Chib Duggal has been appointed as secretary in the department of financial services. She is retiring in August 2017. She did MA in psychology before getting into IAS.
4. 1980 batch Rajasthan cadre IAS and secretary in ministry of skill development Sunil Arora appointed as secretary, I&B ministry. He is retiring in April 2016.
5. JS Deepak, 1982 batch IAS and additional secretary in commerce ministry has been appointed as secretary in the department of electronics and IT. An MSc in physics, he is a product of IIM-Ahmedabad. He is retiring on July 2018.
6. Raghav Chandra, 1982 batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS, has been appointed as chairman, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He is retiring in October 2018.
7. 1982 batch Gujarat cadre IAS Tapan Ray has been appointed as secretary, ministry of corporate affairs. A mechanical engineer-turned IAS, he has a degree in law and diploma in international law. He is retiring on September 2017.
8. 1981 batch UT cadre IAS and director general and mission director of UIDAI Vijay Shankar Madan has been appointed as secretary in the department of land resources.
9. Deputy Election Commissioner and 1982 batch Rajasthan cadre IAS Vinod Zutshi has been appointed as new tourism secretary. He is retiring in February 2017. He had between 2004 and 2007 served as secretary in tourism department of Rajasthan.
10. Air India CMD and 1982 batch UP cadre IAS Rohit Nandan has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship. He is retiring on January 2017.
11. 1979 batch Haryana cadre IAS and present sports secretary Ajit M Sharan has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of AYUSH. Yoga comes under this ministry. He is a BTech from IIT Delhi and is also armed with MSc in development economic from the University of Wales. He is retiring in March 2017.
12. Sanjay K Srivastava, 1980 batch AGMUT cadre IAS and secretary in the department of official languages has been appointed as secretary (coordination) in the cabinet secretariat. He is retiring in April 2017.
13. Rajiv Yadav, 1981 batch Assam cadre IAS, now special sectary in the ministry of chemicals has been appointed as secretary in the department of sports. A Bachelor of Engineering from IIT Roorkee, he is an MTech from IIT Delhi. He is retiring in January 2018.
14. Pravir Kumar, DGFT and 1982 batch UP cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary, Inter State Council secretariat. An electrical engineer from IIT-Kanpur, he turned around a sick PSU called UP Agro in a record period of six months for which he was awarded Ugyog Ratna Award.
15. Girish Sankar, 1982 batch Bihar cadre IAS, now  additional secretary in the ministry of tourism, has been appointed as secretary in the department of official languages. He is retiring in September 2017.
16. Amarenra Sinha, 1981 batch Uttarakhand cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary in the National Commission of Minorities. He is retiring in June 1917.
