IRCTC Director: Railway officer Kalita sings, acts & conducts quiz shows

NEXT time you travel in Rajdhani Express and spot some kind of innovation in breakfast or dinner, you should know who to thank. On the contrary, if you find any deterioration in the catering service, you must know who to blame for it. He is a 1982 batch Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer,...
Rabindra Nath Kalita. Kalita who last week took over as director of catering services in Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), is a highly creative railway officer. He is a singer, and occasionally performs at Delhi stages. He is a popular quiz master in North-East, and an actor, to boot. Kalita has, in fact, appeared in a number of Assamese television serials and lent voices in radio plays as well.
But the moment he is back in office and finds himself amid files, he turns a meticulous officer. In every matter, Kalita has an eye for detail. And no one can take him for a ride on any rail matter.
An MA in economics and graduate in law, Kalita was an executive director, marketing, in Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) before joining IRCTC. In railways, he had training in multifarious subjects ranging from multi-modal transport management in Brugge, Belgium to consultant selection procedure for ADB-funded projects.
He also worked as director on the boards of Krishnapatnam Railway, Bharuch Dahej Railway, Kutch Railway and Angul Sukinda Railway. He was acting managing director in Krishnapatnam Railway for three and half years and was selected to take over as its full-time MD. But Kalita opted for IRCTC instead.
The IRCTC, which has emerged as a game-changer in booking railway tickets, is slowing spreading its wings beyond railways. Only last week, the IRCTC was appointed as an authorized agent for booking air tickets for official tours of government employees. Is it adding any more compartment?

  4. Expensive air tickets created it not possible for passengers to book their flight to MAA. But now, with Cheap airfare in India country, individuals will switch to air and travel anyplace at intervals the country without concern regarding overpriced ticket.
