Govt ignores its own order in giving extension to 3 IPS officers serving at SPG

Elite SPG Commandos
THREE senior IPS officers serving at elite Special Protection Group (SPG) have become so indispensable that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has ignored its own order to give them extension once more. Though no reason is given in the order, it’s believed that the elite force which is responsible for the protection of Prime Minister of India and a few other VVIPs has failed to...
get suitable substitutes for those IGP ranked officers.
Sudeep Lakhtakia of Andhra Pradesh cadre, Ram Phal Pawar of West Bengal cadre and SL Thaosen of Madhya Pradesh cadre, who have been with the SPG from the beginning of the UPA-I in 2005, were recently given extension despite the ACC in its order dated August 8, 2011 considered their extension for seven months on the conditions that “no further extension would be considered”.
Whereas Pawar’s extension, according to the new order dated June 19, 2012, is till September 30 this year, Lakhtakia and Thaosen will continue at SPG till December 31, 2012. The August 2011 order said “operational needs and sensitivity of the job” were the reasons for giving them extension up to eight years. The same order further directed the cabinet secretary to take “appropriate steps” to find suitable substitutes.
