Home Coming: 4550 modern housing units to be constructed in Delhi for government employees

FOR Central government employees, not getting suitable accommodations in Delhi, has been a familiar story. But there could a twist to the tale soon. The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal of the ministry of urban development for re-development of Kidwai Nagar (East) for construction of residential accommodation for government employees. According to the proposal, approximately 4550 modern and technically advanced housing units of various types will be constructed in place of the existing 2331 old houses, a government release said.
Already, senior officials from CAG, finance ministry etc. would get official residences at the Commonwealth Games village once the sports personalities leave and the state-of-the art flats would be used for commercial purposes.
At present, there is an acute shortage of government housing, especially in the National Capital Region. In fact, the redevelopment programme of replacing old buildings with new ones could be the way forward if government employees in Delhi expect to get suitable official accommodations.
