Subhash Chandra Garg designated as finance secretary; IFoS officer Preet Pal Singh prematurely repatriated to Jammu and Kashmir

Subhash Chandra Garg, 1983 batch Rajasthan cadre lAS, presently union secretary in the department of economic affairs (DEA), was on Friday appointed as union finance secretary. Finance secretary is a designation bestowed upon the senior-most secretary among secretaries of all five departments that come under the ministry of finance. Garg will continue to look after the DEA. India’s executive director in the World Bank. He went on a deputation. The officer also worked as director in DEA from May 2000 to September 2003. He also served as joint secretary in the department of expenditure, also under the ministry of finance. In 2012-13, he worked as joint secretary and then additional secretary in the cabinet secretariat. 
Meanwhile, the government has prematurely repatriated Preet Pal Singh, 2000 batch Indian Forest Service (IFoS) office and director in the department of defence to his parent cadre, Jammu and Kashmir, with the condition of “extended cooling off”.
In another development, the government on Tuesday extended the tenure of Kushal Kumar Pathak, 2000 batch Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officer, presently serving as a director in Election Commission of India, for a period up to June 30, 2019. Pathak’s central deputation tenure began in November 28, 2011. The Election Commission of India is set to announce the schedule of the Lok Sabha poll on early next week. 
Also, Dr Asha Ram Sihag, 1983 batch Himachal Pradesh cadre IAS, presently the secretary in the department of heavy industry, has been given additional charge of the post of secretary of the MSME ministry between March 10 and 23, 2019, when incumbent secretary Arun Kumar Panda is on leave.
