IPS, a pillar that represents continuity, says President Kovind

IDEAL police system is one where a citizen gets services from the police without visiting the police station, President Ram Nath Govind told the 2017 batch IPS officer-trainees. President Govind interacted with the young officer-trainees in New Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday. Here below are the details of what Govind had said:

A) Ideal police system is one where the citizen gets due service from the police without needing to visit the police station.
B) IPS is one of the pillars of our national administrative system.
C) Indian Police Service is also a service that defines the trust of common citizens in our police forces.
D) Citizens see IPS officers as officers who will uphold the rule of law and enable delivery of justice.
E) IPS officers are guardians of not just public order and honest conduct – but of the majesty of the law.
F) Governments come and go, but you represent continuity and you represent the Constitution.
G) We must do everything required to make basic policing better and that is the hallmark of a sensitive and professional police force.
H) This would help us build an environment where citizens fear and respect the law – rather than fear the law enforcer.
Reacting to the President’s address to the young officers, the IPS Association in a Twitter post says the following: "Grateful to #PresidentKovind for inspiring '17 batch #IPS officer trainees to work to serve common citizens, and ensure justice to poorest of the poor by combining basic policing with specialisation.”
