Govt wonders why cadre review of some Group “A” services is pending for 40 years; DoPT releases month-wise calendar for review

THE Central government is clearly concerned about the delay in the cadre review of the Group "A" services, with a DoPT office memorandum issued on May 25 saying how “cadre review in some cases is pending for even more than 40 years”. The ideal periodicity of the cadre review is five years. Now, the DoPT has prepared a calendar for cadre review of the Central Group ‘A’ Services, which…
needs to be followed by the Cadre Controlling Authorities (CCA) strictly. The calendar mentions the months and year on which the cadre review is to be done.
For 2018 calendar, the cadre review is completed for two services — Central Industrial Security Force and Indian Petroleum and Explosive Safety Service, the second one being a new Group “A” service.
According to the calendar, the cadre review of three services — Defence Research and Development Service, Survey of India Group "A" and Indian Meteorological Service — needs to be completed in the month of July. For August, the services that need to be taken up for review are: Indian Foreign Service, Central Water Engineering Service, Medical cadres of BSF, ITBP and CRPF, Indian Health Service and Indian Railway Medical Service.
The same calendar mentions that the cadre review for Indian Revenue Service is scheduled for the month of November, and for the IRS (Customs), it’s December. The mid-term review of Indian Information Service is also scheduled in December this year, the OM further said.
A cadre review encompasses a gamut of issues such as manpower, recruitment, training, promotion etc. of the particular service.
