Know Your IAS: Batchmates C Chandramouli and R Subrahmanyam — both new union secretaries

C Chandramouli is the new secretary of department of personnel and training (DoPT) and his batchmate in IAS, R Subrahmanyam was appointed last week as secretary of the department of higher education. Here below are some details about the two newly-appointed union secretaries:
C Chandramouli
Secretary, DoPT
1. He is a 1985 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS.
2. Between 2009 and 2016, he served as the Registrar General of India (RGI), a post that comes under the ministry of home affairs (MHA). 
3. In Tamil Nadu, he was secretary of departments like information and technology, planning and development et al, in addition to acting as the Managing Director of Tourism Development Corporation of Tamil Nadu. 
4. At an earlier posting on a Central deputation, he was director, Census Operations between 1999 and 2004.
5. He is a Tamil but have command over Odiya language apart from Hindi, according to DoPT records.
6. A graduate in economics, he did masters in international studies before getting into IAS. 

R Subrahmanyam
Secretary, Department of Higher Education
1. Subrahmanyam is a 1985 batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS.
2. Till recently, he was acting as the special secretary in the department of higher education.
3. He is Telugu-speaking; and he belongs to Andhra Pradesh.
4. In 1990S, he was collector and DM of East Godavari and Hyderabad districts. 
5. Like Chandramouli, Subrahmanyam too did his graduation in economics, and completed his masters in international studies before getting into IAS.
