Why Navi Mumbai residents turn angry with the transfer of 2005 batch IAS Mundhe Tukaram

NAVI MUMBAI Municipal Commissioner Mundhe Tukaram Haribhau’s transfer order has not gone well with its residents. The ordinary citizens adjoining the area have adopted a massive signature campaign to stall Mundhe’s transfer order as they feel, the removal of the 2005 batch IAS officer from that post was arbitrary in nature, and was possibly done at the behest of the builders’ lobby among others. Mundhe is considered honest, straightforward and highly popular, and has taken on the…
builders’ lobby and even BJP corporators, apart from suspending 10 civic officials for dereliction of duty, the reasons that may have prompted his unceremonious exit from the key civic body.
According to reports, the protests by citizens are being led by Navi Mumbai Citizen Forum, RTI activists and writers etc. They have been trying to collect 50,000 signatures in an appeal to the CM and the Governor to cancel the officer’s transfer order. Mundhe’s proactive way of removing illegal hawkers, political hoardings etc. has made him popular among citizens even as his action irked the influential lot in the city including some politicians.
An MA in political science, Mundhe as an IAS had earlier worked as CEO of Khadi and Village Industries Board, CEO of Zila Panchayat, Washim, additional commissioner of Tribal development department at Nasik etc.
42-year-old officer has also done some short courses — one on ethical issues in administration from Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie and another on multidisciplinary perspectives on urban development from the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore.

  1. It is a mistake for this IAS officer to follow difficulat path of honesty.

In a give and take world, honesty stands last in the queue. One should be a pragmatic bureaucrat and not be rigidly honest. Else, family of the bureaucrat always suffers.

    Jai Hind.

  3. PH reservation has become a big fraud and calls for investigation. Perfect individuals have come on hearing handicapped and locomotive handicapped quota to IAS, IRS and are mostly kid of high rankning officers. E.g. a classical singer and a pianist camme under hearing handicapped this year, someone who runs in gym has come under locomotive disability.
As if this was not enough all of them get transferred to mp, rajasthan,up (if they are north india) & 4 south indian states if they are south indian. does it mean disable cant live in tripura or manipur? if they cant work outside home cadre why join service at all?
