al Qaeda asks Indian Muslims to target IPS, IAS officers

GLOBAL terrorist outfit al Qaeda has asked Indian Muslims to kill senior Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and cause them financial losses, claiming that they are responsible for incidents against the minorities in India, according to an article published in
The Hindustan Times today, quoting a statement from Maulana Asim Umar who has been the chief of al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) since 2014. In his statement, partly reproduced in HT, Umar said the Indian state and its departments were equally responsible for the incidents against Muslims in India. The statement was first put out by SITE Intelligence Group which is a non-governmental counter terror organization that analyses terror threats.
The statement issued by al Qaeda’s Umar, a terrorist who is originally from UP but left for Pakistan in 1999, is highly communal in colour and provocative in nature. He basically appealed Indian minority community to follow the example of “their brethren in Syria”, who according to him have succeeded to disturb the entire European continent.
BoI has decided not to reproduce the statement.
HT report quotes National Investigation Agency chief Sharad Kumar as saying, “We will analyse the statement.”
It's however felt that the government of India must take the threat seriously considering that it has come from al Qaeda. US state department designates Umar as a ‘global terrorist’.
The government of India has so far succeeded in identifying those youth in India who could have been on the verge of radicalization thanks to the spread of ISIS ideology.

  1. This seems a charade to mollycoddle the top bureaucracy and fool the gullible public . How the fabricated controversy is being revived year- after-year by the vested interest , merits investigation.

The terror organizations are not bothered about the elite organized services.
They aim at targeting the poor public, air force base camps, nuclear reactors, airports, schools, hospitals and wreak maximum damage .

The IPS officers, irrespective of their job profiles, are invariably provided security cover at homes. Tents pitched outside their homes, stick out like sore thumbs. The armed guards are, more often than not, deployed on performing domestic chores.

It is common knowledge that presence of security guards at homes of police officers, does not enthuse officers of other organized Services in the neighborhood. This is a status symbol whose absence is considered an affront. Let us not pretend but accept the hard reality.
If the proposal , based on “ fake” alert, is accepted across the board it will cause huge repercussions on the States due to prevailing VIP culture. How would similar demands from law makers ( MPs, MLAs) be resisted ?

It is ultimately the common man who has to bear the brunt of insecurity due to declining police/public ratio. Security cover must be "job-specific ", not “Services- specific".
One trusts, PM Modi does not become a victim to this conspiracy.
