More about D Thara, the new MD of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation

Ahmedabad, Kheda, Rajkot, Vadodara and Surendranagar. She was collector of Kheda and Ahmedabad and development officer in Vadodara and Surendranagar.
Thara who had an earlier stint in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation as deputy municipal commissioner, was instrumental in executing a number of projects under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission. She was also one the key persons behind Ahmedabad’s flagship infrastructure project—BRTS.
When she took charge as Ahmedabad municipal commissioner in October 2014, she made history as she became the first woman civil chief in the history of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The news reports published then highlighted this aspect. 
Among her past postings include Managing Director of Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Ltd, special commissioner in commercial taxes department and chief executive officer of Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA). 
As CEO of AUDA, she completed the Second Revised Draft Development Plan 2021, Ahmedabad which included many a new concept such as Central Business District, transit oriented zone, residential affordable housing zone etc.
45-year-old Thara did her MSc in bio-technology before getting into IAS.
