Search process for Adviser to ED in IMF begins; director & JS can apply

FOR many an Indian bureaucrat, a job in IMF or World Bank is most sought after. It gives a three-year stay in US, provides ample scope to network with high and mighty, and ensures a dollar salary. officers at the rank of director or joint secretary to apply for the post.
The selected candidate will be based in Washington DC for a period of three years. The officers aged up to 54 years and having worked for at least two years under the Central Staffing Scheme are eligible to apply. Officers belonging to IAS, IPS and other Group A services such as IRS, IES, railway services etc. can apply for the post.
But the previous trends have shown that such coveted posts usually go to officers working either in PMO or in finance ministry.
The desirable qualifications, according to the advertisement issued by DoPT, include experience in areas related to economic ministries, and experience in dealing with multilateral institutions related to international finance and macroeconomic issues. Those with degree in economics or MBA with specialization in finance will be preferred.

Action and Appointments
a) The ACC has approved the cancellation of its earlier approval of appointing V Umashankar, a 1993 batch Haryana cadre IAS, as joint secretary in the ministry of defence. Instead, he has been appointed as joint secretary in the department of telecommunications. Currently, he is with the department of higher education.
b) The ACC has approved the “last extension” of Central deputation tenure in favour of Ms Sujata Saunik, a 1987 batch Maharashtra cadre IAS, Adviser, National Disaster Management Authority under the ministry of home affairs till June 30, 2013.
c) The following officers have been empaneled for appointment to additional secretary level posts in the Central government:
1) Kopulla Raju, 1981 batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS
2) AK Dubey, 1982 batch Kerala cadre IAS
3) Amitabh Verma, 1982 batch Bihar cadre IAS
4) Susheel Kumar, 1982 batch UP cadre IAS
5) Ms Annie Moraes 1979 batch IP&TFAS
