New twist to Rajasthan IAS VS Singh’s death; police to probe afresh

WHEN additional chief secretary-ranked IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre VS Singh died in a road accident in Jaipur a week ago, police did not even doubt it could be more than a mere accident. But the statement of deputy commissioner (commercial tax department) Vijendra Singh who was with VS Singh, and in coma since then, contradicted what the driver of the speeding Maruti Alto car said, forcing the police to begin the probe from the scratch. Here is the twist of the tale:
According to a report in Indian Express, the case has been particularly important “considering late VS Singh was an important witness in the Dara Singh fake encounter case as a senior official of the state Home department and could therefore be a potential target”. Was it a murder then?It was December 3. VS Singh and Vijendra Singh were coming from their routine morning walk in Jaipur’s Central Park when a speeding Alto car rammed into them. Vijendra Singh who survived with serious injuries said he did not see any pedestrian crossing the road and hence contradicted what driver Deen Dayal Paul had maintained so far. The driver’s version was that the accident occurred because a pedestrian suddenly came in front of his car.
The police who did not even carry out any background check of the driver so far, does not want to take any chance. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Raghuveer Saini is now in-charge of the investigation.
BoI had earlier reported: “A master degree holder both in physics and economics, deceased VS Singh was on a study tour, according to DoPT records. He was district magistrate of Jaipur in early 1990s, and had handled a number of important departments including home, forests and PWD.”

Army officers in illegal sale of arms
A case relating to sale of Non-Standard Pattern (NSP) weapons by Army officers and JCO in violation of the provisions of Army Act/Special Army Order, has come to light.
