DoPT looks for university talents as interns; eyes free resources during vacations

FOR Indian students doing research in an Indian or foreign university, preferably specializing in HR or public policy, here is a chance to work with the GoI’s personnel department, DoPT as an intern. August 30, 2013 said. “A maximum of 10 interns may be hired at any given time by the DoPT on a token remuneration basis. Department may also hire equal number of unpaid interns especially during the summer vacation months of the universities when the supply side may be very strong if it may be justified on the basis of value of such engagement for the department”, the circular said.
Once selected, they will be required to carry their own laptops to the office. The cautious government has also made it very clear that “it is neither a job nor a promise for job in the future”.

Why This Scheme
a) To allow young academic talents to be associated with the departmental work for mutual benefits.
b) The interns may benefit by getting an exposure to the policy issues in human resource management in government of India and contribute to the policy formulation by generating inputs such as empirical analysis, briefing reports, policy papers etc.
c) The DoPT may benefit from the additional resources in the form of young talents and their outputs which will add to its policy formulation base.

Who are Eligible?
a) The applicant should be a citizen of India.
b) The applicant should be a graduate or post-graduate or research student enrolled in reputed university or institution within India or abroad and preferably specializing in HR and associated subjects in public policy.

Duration of Internship
The period of internship will be for a minimum period of two months but shall not exceed six months in individual cases.

No of Interns
A maximum of 10 interns may be hired at any given time by the DoPT on a token remuneration basis. Department may also hire equal number of unpaid interns especially during the summer vacation months of the universities when the supply side may be very strong if it may be justified on the basis of value of such engagement for the department.

Remuneration
Interns may be given a stipend of Rs 10,000 per month so that they can meet the conveyance and other daily needs of the interns.

When to Apply
DoPT shall develop an online application and sorting of candidates on objective eligibility criteria. The applications may be made online any time. In case of vacancy arising during a particular month, all the available on-line applications till the last day of the month during which the vacancies arise, shall be considered. The final selection will be made by a Standing Committee constituted for the purpose by the DoPT secretary by 15th of the month. The first set of applications received up to September 15, 2013 will be considered for selection by the screening committee now.
