Party time for 3,600 officers of major port trusts as government approves pay hike

HERE’s a party time for senior officers working at major port thrusts in India. The government has approved the pay hike of Class-I and Class-II officers of major Port Trusts with a retrospective effect from January 1, 2007.
The revision in pay scale would benefit about 3,600 officers of the 11 Major Port Trusts and Calcutta Dock Labour Board. One of the key highlights of the revision is a fitment benefit of 30% to all officers and also one level jump in the pay-scales consequent to removal of non-standard pay-scale according to guidelines issued by Department of Public Enterprise.
Also, the officers would now be able to avail the benefits of various allowances under “cafeteria” approach as prescribed for Public Sector Undertaking executives. The total financial implications involved on account this revision is about Rs 55 crore per year, but there is no budgetary consequence. The major ports will meet this additional expenditure from their own resources.
