Officials must travel by Air India to claim LTC, clarifies DoPT

IF YOU are a government babu planning your tour with your family by availing Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme, forget in-flight enjoyment of Jet Airways or Kingfisher Airlines this time. The government has clarified that its earlier order issued on July 13, 2009, that officials had to take Air India both for their domestic and international tours, would be applicable for LTC as well, the department of personnel and training (DoPT) said. The matter whether the earlier order of air travel only by Air India was referred to the department of expenditure under the ministry of finance, it was decided after a wide consultation that Air India, which lost whopping Rs 5,000 cr last financial year, should get the traffic of government employees availing the LTC. The earlier order said that if travel destinations are not connected by Air India, the officials may travel by Air India to the closest point beyond which they may utilize the services of another airline which again should preferably be an alliance partner of Air India. In fact, a restructuring plan of Air India needs an urgent infusion of Rs 20,000 crore to tide over its worst ever financial crisis. The annual wage bill of the national carrier is about Rs 3,100 cr.

  1. ..It will provide some palliatives for the ailing Air India. The National Carrier is passing through a bad phase and the Centre should do something concrete to revive it..

  3. If governemnt has madea compulsion for its employee to trvel by air india on official duty. It is definately causing inconvience as many situations timings do not suit then one has to run to civil avialtion ministry which is inconvenience for the employee as well as ministry - i think it sshould be only a advise to travel by national carrier rather than compulsion. And those who prefer air india should be given some advantage by airlines such as low cancellation fees on apex fares such as rs 100 insted of 760/500 as for the ltc 80 fares

  4. How frequently can LTC be availed. I have joined service in 2005. I availed LTC Home Town for the block 2010-2011 during June 2011. Can I avail another LTC Home Town in December 2011 as fresh recuits can avail 3 Home Towns and 1 All India in the block of 2010-2013.

  5. It was all very well for an Englishman like Mr. Fogg to make the tour of the world with a carpet-bag; a lady could not be expected to travel comfortably under such conditions.
