Senior IAS Rajeev Kapoor prematurely repatriated to UP; Who’s Kapoor, and what next for him?

Rajeev Kapoor, 1983 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS and secretary in the department of chemicals and petrochemicals, was on Thursday prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre, Uttar Pradesh. What’s in store for him in the state? There’s no clarity on that, at the time of writing this piece, but here below is more about this officer — his home state, career graph, educational background and more:
On Thursday, when the order came that Kapoor is prematurely repatriated to his home cadre, i.e. to Uttar Pradesh, he was the secretary in the department of chemicals and petrochemicals, Government of India. In fact, he took charge of the ministry only in June 2017. Earlier, between December 2016 and June 2017, he was the secretary of the ministry of new and renewable energy.
Kapoor was also the director of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA; May 2014 – November 2016). In Uttar Pradesh, he served as principal secretary, agriculture, finance and also secretary in the ministries such as health, finance and public works department. In early 1990s, he was the district magistrate of Uttarkashi, a district in Uttarakhand, a state which was part of Uttar Pradesh till 2000.
In 2010-12, he also served as the joint secretary in the department of personnel and training (DoPT). He also had a foreign assignment with DFID.
Originally hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Kapoor, 59, did his B.Tech from IIT Kanpur and MBA from IIM-Ahmedabad before getting into IAS. Later, he took sabbatical from the service to do masters in public policy from the Princeton University, US.
