IAS Gyanesh Kumar appointed JS in MHA, Manish Thakur in defence; 2 telecom services officers in dept of higher education

THE Centre on Monday issued appointment orders of several officers, mainly at the rank of joint secretary to Government of India. The appointments included Kerala cadre IAS Gyanesh Kumar as joint secretary in MHA and lateral shifting of UP cadre IAS Alok Tandon from the department of financial services to the cabinet secretariat. But the highlight of the orders issued on Monday was the appointment of two Indian Telecom Service officers as directors in higher education department under the ministry of human resources development (HRD). The following are the new appointments:

a) 1990 batch Indian Telecom Service officer Venkata Sastry Yedla has been appointed as director in higher education under the HRD ministry.
b) 1984 batch Indian Telecom Service officer Ashok Maheshwari has been appointed as director in the department of higher education under HRD ministry. 
c) 2004 batch Gujarat cadre IAS Rajender Kumar has been appointed as deputy secretary in department of personnel and training (DoPT).
d) 1988 batch Assam cadre IAS Manish Thakur has been appointed as joint secretary in the ministry of defence in place of Odisha cadre IAS Ashok KK Meena. 
e) 1988 batch Kerala cadre IAS Gyanesh Kumar has been appointed as joint secretary in the ministry of home affairs (MHA). 
f) 1986 batch UP cadre IAS Alok Tandon who is now joint secretary in the department of financial services under the ministry of finance, has been laterally shifted as joint secretary to cabinet secretariat.
g) SK Sharma, distinguished scientist and director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) has been appointed as the CMD of the company —NPCIL.
h) 2002 batch Indian Postal Service officer Aman Sharma has been appointed as deputy secretary in the ministry of commerce.
