Commerce minister Sitharaman praises IAS officers -- Vikram Kapur, Latha and Tamil Nadu chief secretary

UNION minister of state for commerce and industry (independent charge)  Nirmala Sitharaman has praised at least three IAS officers of Tamil Nadu cadre -- state chief secretary K Gnanadesikan, principal secretary and commissioner of Chennai Corporation Vikram Kapur and nodal officer of the zone where Ambattur Industrial Estate falls, Ms Latha, IAS. First, let’s have a look at this photo where Sitharaman’s convoy is seen on a flood-hit bye-lane of Ambattur Industrial Estate, Chennai on Monday. Here is what the minister wrote in a social media site:

“Spoke to Chief Secy TN imm (immediately) after visiting Ambattur Ind Estate. Understand he rushed Ind. Commissioner & his team. Since then work on pumping out water being undertaken. Through the night the teams of #AIEMA Mr. Kapoor IAS, Commissioner of Corporation of Chennai, Nodal Officer of the zone, Ms. Latha IAS, MD Metro water & SIDCO are working to get the Ind. Estate to normalcy. Can't wait!”
First she appreciated Tamil Nadu chief secretary who rushed into the flood-hit industrial estate immediately after she had called. 1982-batch IAS K Gnanadesikan is the state chief secretary now.
According to Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association (AIEMA) site, there are about 800 industries in that locality. The association mainly represents small-scale industries.
The minister also appreciates “Kapoor IAS”, Commissioner, Corporation of Chennai. Minister Sitharaman actually meant Vikram Kapur (not Kapoor), 1988 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS.
The praise comes at at time when the opposition parties have flayed J Jayalalithaa-led government and the Chennai municipal corporation in particular for lack of preparedness.
