Govt effects secretary level reshuffle; new commerce, power and civil aviation secretaries appointed

IN A major administrative reshuffle involving secretaries of the Government of India, new appointments of the top bureaucrats were made for key ministries such as commerce, power and civil aviation. It was quite an overhaul as a number of secretaries were also laterally transferred from one ministry to another. Here are the key appointments and later shifts:

1. 1981 batch Gujarat cadre IAS Rita A Teaotia has been appointed as new commerce secretary.
2. Pradeep Kumar Pujari, 1981 batch Gujarat cadre IAS, has been appointed as power secretary in place of Pradeep Kumar Sinha who has joined the cabinet secretariat as OSD before taking charge as cabinet secretary on June 13.
3. Ameising Luikham, 1981 batch IAS and secretary in North Eastern Council, has been appointed as secretary, Department of Public Enterprises (DPE).
4. Rajiv Nayan Choubey, 1981 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS, has been appointed as new civil aviation secretary.
5. Current civil aviation secretary and 1979 batch Kerala cadre IAS V Somasundaran has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of women and child development.
6. Secretary, mines and 1980 batch Karnataka cadre IAS Dr Anup K Pujari has been shifted as secretary, MSME ministry
7. Balvender Kumar, 1981 batch UP cadre IAS and vice-chairman of Delhi Development Authority, has been appointed as secretary, mines.
8. Vinay Sheel Oberoi, 1979 batch Assam cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary, department of higher education under human resource development ministry.
9. Shashi Shekhar, 1981 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary, ministry of water resources.
10. Anuj Kumar Bishnoi, 1981 batch UP cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary, department of fertilizer.
11. Dr Subhas Chandra Khuntia, 1981 batch Karnataka cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary, department of school education and literacy under HRD ministry.
12. Ms Vrinda Sarup, 1981 batch UP cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary, department of food and public distribution.
13. Devendra Chaudhary, 1981 batch UP cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary in the department of administrative reforms and public grievances.
14. Sunil Soni, 1981 batch Maharashtra cadre IAS and secretary in the ministry of overseas Indian affairs, has been appointed as secretary, Inter State Council Secretariat.
15. Anil Kumar Agarwal, 1981 batch West Bengal cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary, ministry of overseas Indian affairs.
16. Satyanarayan Mohanty, 1980 batch Telangana cadre IAS, has been appointed as secretary general, National Human Rights Commission.
17. CR Viswanath, 1981 batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS, currently CMD of Food Corporation of India, has been appointed as secretary in the department of consumer affairs.

  1. This government has made it a habit to make midnight announcements on Secretary level postings. Bulk transfer orders that too at highly frequent intervals will affect the smooth functioning of the ministries exactly the opposite of what the NDA political masters had promised prior to the polls.

  3. Kya faida hai. Gadha ko kahi bhi post karo gadha hi rahegi. Gadha gadha ka kaam karna hai aur goda goda ka kam karna hai. Abhi gadha goda ka kaam kar rahi hai. So desh aisa hai.
