Larsen and Toubro, Mumbai. He was first selected for Indian Railways Mechanical Engineering Service before entering into IAS.
In early 1990s, he worked as collector in Sindhudurg. Then, he worked in deputy secretary and director in the union ministry of coal. Soni also worked as divisional commissioner, municipal commission and principal secretary in the state.
In April 2012, he joined the Centre as an additional secretary in the department of financial services under the finance ministry. In 2013-14, he was Director General in Bureau of Indian Standards.
Soni will retire on April, 2016.
