Haryana IAS Sukriti Likhi to return home; new vacancy for counsellor (economic) in Washington DC

Sukriti Likhi
DEPUTY secretary and director-level officers may apply for the post of counsellor (economic) in the economic wing of embassy of India in Washington DC, as the term of 1993 batch Haryana cadre IAS Sukriti Likhi is ending soon. Like many a mistake in the past, (Read: DoPT mistakes), the DoPT circular dated April 28, 2014, termed Mrs Likhi as a…
1991 batch IAS whereas all other documents including 1993 batch joint secretary empanelment list and executive record sheet have clearly shown her batch as that of 1993. Likhi is daughter of NN Vohra, veteran IAS and ex-principal secretary to prime minister IK Gujral (1997-98), and current Jammu and Kashmir governor.
A D-School product in sociology, Likhi holds a master degree in public administration from John F Kennedy School of Harvard University. She was a deputy secretary and then director in the ministry of finance before she moved to Washington in July 2011. Her husband Abhilaksh Likhi is a fellow Haryana cadre IAS, two batch senior to her.
According to the advertisement, deputy secretary or director level officer with at least two years of experience in the Centre under the Central Staffing Scheme can apply for the post of counsellor (economic) in Indian embassy in US in place of Likhi. The posting too will be for three years. The officer should not be over 54 years of age, and it is desired that the officer should have experiences of working in the department of economic affairs.
Though the vacancy notice is being circulated among officers eligible to be appointed at the level of deputy secretary or director in all ministries of the government of India, the experiences in the past suggest that such a high profile post is usually filled up from officers belonging to PMO or finance ministry.

  1. Apply only if you are son or daughter of powerful bureaucrats preferably IAS. If not don't waste your time in filling up Forms. Merit is of no consequence, contacts in right places is all that matters. Cant you see the requirement for the post is tailor-made for those on deputation in the Department of Economic affairs. If those fellows were really interested in selection on merit they would have said a masters degree in economics or commerce, deputation experience of 2 years in any Ministry and experience of Working in Finance in Center or States. But no that is not the case. It appears they have already made up their mind. Why waste out time.

  2. One only hopes that the decision is taken by the next Govt. or the post is re-advertised.
