IF YOU are a state civil service officer wishing to get into IAS, IPS, IFoS etc., better brush up your general knowledge and appear in mock interviews. In a major revamp to the process of promoting state civil service officers including police and forest personnel into all India services such as IAS and IPS, the government has decided to hold a single-day-long written examination in New Delhi’s UPSC headquarters. The written examination will have 30% weightage whereas…
the length of service and appraisal (APAR) will have 25% weightage each, and the rest 20% weightage will be on the interview, according to the revised scheme of induction of state officers into IAS, IPS and IFoS. If anyone has a suggestion, he can still write to DoPT or call at 011-23092765 by January 23, 2014, and demand for modification of the proposed scheme.
The revised scheme will be valid for three years after which a review is expected to be undertaken. Currently, officers below the age of 54 are allowed to apply, but the maximum age could subsequently be brought down so to enable selection of younger people, DoPT adds in its revised scheme.
Unlike fresh recruits, a promoted officer can’t however be posted outside his own state.

  1. I wish exam was applicable for all officers for every promotion. There are many IAS officers who have no knowledge of rules. They are interested only in money making and sycophancy. Such officers are getting promotion because of networking skills and not because of merit. There should be equality and all must give exam.

  2. I wish that this is open to all including central services (non IAS/IPS/IFS). That will greatly enhance the quality of IAS.
