Andhra minister crosses all forms of Netagiri; bureaucrats strongly condemn

BUREAUCRACY bashing has been a pastime for politicians across geographies, but the recent remarks of an Andhra Pradesh minister TG Venkatesh have surpassed all forms of Netagiri demonstrated by political leaders in India and outside. Now, bureaucrats in India have openly condemned minister Venkatesh’s reported remarks in a public function that...
officials with no commitment to their work should be shot dead.
The IAS Officers’ Association on Saturday came out with a strong statement condemning the minister’s reported remarks in his home town—Kurnool adding that it would demoralise bureaucracy and bring down the image of the government. Some officials have even wanted the minister to be booked as they say the remark attracts criminal liability under IPC (Indian Penal Code).
A bureaucrat-turned politician and Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan on Sunday condemned Venkatesh's remark saying that it is unbecoming of a minister to make such a statement.
For newly-appointed chief secretary of the state Minnie Mathew, this unprecedented episode is going to be a big challenge in the coming days as many officials would be unrelenting till action is taken against the minister.
Many officials also believe that the minister’s remarks may incite public against bureaucrats and that may create law and order situation.
In fact, bureaucracy bashing is not just an India-centric problem. It has been a fashion statement for global Netas right from British Prime Minister David Cameron to former Japanese premier Naoto Kan. Kan, for example, called bureaucrats “a bunch of idiots who just got good grades in school.”
But no one has said anything that is even comparable to what the Andhra minister reportedly said. The big question is whether the minister will be booked at all?

  1. According to reports, the minister is still unrelenting. Says he stands by his comments. Very unfortunate. Many officers want a formal case to be filed against him
