A top cop of 1974 batch joins MHA as special secretary, internal security

A SENIOR IPS officer Utthan Kumar Bansal is joining the ministry of home affairs (MHA) as special secretary, internal secretary, in the vacancy of Raman Srivastava, IPS. An Indian Police Service officer of 1974 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre, Mr Bansal was recently posted at Chandigarh as the ADG, (West) in Border Security Force (BSF). As the special secretary in-charge of internal security, his first challenge will be to curb the growing Naxal violence in many parts of the country. G K Pillai, a 1972 batch Kerala cadre IAS, is the home secretary of the country. Meanwhile, the continued assignment of additional charge of the post of DG & Mission Director, Unique identification Authority of India to R Bhattacharya, IAS (AP, 78), who is now a senior adviser in the Planning Commission, has been approved beyond June 30, 2009 and until the successor to the post of DG & Mission Director, UIAI joins.   1. This is an excellent blog. And will no doubt ensure greater transparency and accountability amongst the bureacracy.

    I was hoping you could give me some information on Mr Raghbir Singh, who is the Chairman of the Copyright Board now. I believe he was the Chairman of the National Commission on Scheduled Castes earlier and even the Law Secretary. I am trying to ascertain if he has the requisite qualifications to be a Chairman of the Copyright Board, since the Copyright Act requires that he be eligible to be appointed as a High Court judge.   2. Maintaining internal security is indeed an uphil task for the Govt. Naxalism, insurgency in the Northeast are constantly posing a serious threat to peace. Internal security is an area that calls for stern measures on the part of the security forces. Security forces need to armed with sophisticated weapons and firm strategy should be chalked out by our babus...
