GOI Secretary Reshuffle: Urban development secretary Rajiv Gauba to be new home secretary; Aruna Sundararajan is new telecom secretary

IN A major secretary-level reshuffle announced on Wednesday night, the Central government appointed urban development secretary and 1982 batch Jharkhand cadre IAS Rajiv Gauba as the next home secretary with effect from August 30 when incumbent Rajiv Mehrishi retires. Among 17 such new secretary-ranked appointments and lateral transfers, there are ones like the shifting of culture secretary NK Sinha as information and broadcasting ministry secretary and the appointment of electronics and information technology secretary Ms Aruna Sundararajan as new telecom secretary, an important post lying vacant. Here below is the list of 17 new appointments:
1. NK Sinha, 1980 batch Bihar cadre IAS and secretary in the ministry of culture, has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting.
2. Rajiv Gauba, 1982 batch Jharkhand cadre IAS and present urban development secretary, has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the ministry of home affairs. The officer will take over as home secretary on completion of tenure of the present incumbent Rajiv Mehrishi on August 30, 2017.
3. Ajay Mittal, 1982 batch Himachal cadre IAS and present secretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting, has been appointed as secretary in the department of personnel and training (DoPT). 
4. Ms Aruna Sundararajan, 1982 batch Kerala cadre IAS and present secretary in the ministry of electronics and information technology, has been appointed as secretary in the department of telecommunications.
5. Avinash K Srivastava, 1982 batch UP cadre IAS and present secretary in the ministry of food processing industries, has been appointed as secretary in the department of consumer affairs.
6. Yudhvir Singh Malik, 1983 batch Haryana cadre IAS and present chairman of National Highways Authority of India, has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of road transport and highways.
7. Subash C Garg, 1983 batch Rajasthan cadre IAS and executive director of World Bank, has been appointed as secretary in the department of economic affairs (DEA).
8. Jagdish Prasad Meena, 1983 batch Assam cadre IAS and secretary in the department of consumer affairs, has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of food processing industries.
9. Rajeev Kapoor, 1983 batch UP cadre lAS and secretary in the ministry of new and renewable energy, has been appointed as secretary in the department of chemicals and petrochemicals.
10. Ms Sanjeevanee Kutty, 1983 batch Maharashtra cadre lAS and present secretary in border management, has been appointed as secretary in the department of ex-servicemen welfare.
11. Deepak Kumar, 1984 batch Bihar cadre IAS and current director general, ESIC, has been appointed as Chairman, National Highways Authority of India.
12. Durga Shanker Mishra, 1984 batch UP cadre IAS and present additional secretary in the ministry of urban development, has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of urban development.
13. Arun Kumar Panda, 1984 batch Odisha cadre IAS and additional secretary in the department of health and family welfare, has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises.
14. Ravi Kant, 1984 batch Bihar cadre IAS and present additional secretary in the department of defence, has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of shipping.
15. Anand Kumar, 1984 batch Kerala cadre lAS and present MD of National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, has been appointed as secretary, ministry of new and renewable energy.
16. Ajay Prakash Sawhney, 1984 batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS and present additional secretary in the ministry of petroleum and natural gas, has been appointed as secretary, ministry of electronics and information technology.
17. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, 1984 batch Assam cadre IAS and Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), has been appointed as secretary in the ministry of power.
