IN THE midst of dramatic infighting within the India’s premier investigation agency, CBI, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) decided to bring in a new officer — a 1986 batch IPS, M Nageswara Rao — as the interim chief of the CBI. The order of the DoPT dated October 23, said that Rao, presently working as joint director in CBI, will “look after duties and functions of Director CBI and shall take over duties and functions with immediate effect.” Here are 5 things you may like to know about the new CBI boss, Rao:

Govt promotes 8 IPS officers in CBI, IB, BSF, CRPF; CBI’s Rakesh Asthana will now be Spl Director

IN A Sunday night order, the Central government promoted eight senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers belonging to 1984 batch, to the rank of Special Director, thereby upping their pay matrix as well. Amid some news that the vigilance department had barred CBI's additional director Rakesh Asthana’s promotion, the ACC order was issued where Asthana's promotion as CBI special director, figured. Other IPS officers who were also promoted, are from Intelligence Bureau (IB), BSF and CRPF. Here are the details of each of the promotion:
