THE IAS Association in a social media post on Tuesday said, threatening young IAS officers working in the field is not acceptable, after a video purportedly showing BJP MLA Uday Bhan Singh threatening Agra's Kirawali sub-divisional magistrate, Garima Singh, went viral. In the video, MLA can be heard saying, “Aapko maloom nahi main vidhayak hun (Don’t you know I am an MLA)? Meri taakat ka ehsaas nahi hai (You don’t realise my power).” The IAS Association in a Tweet said:

Only on Friday, a Delhi court held former IAS and ex-coal secretary HC Gupta guilty of corruption and criminal conspiracy in a case linked to the allotment of coal blocks in West Bengal. The other officers found guilty were…

Are incidents of assaulting civil servants — the IAS officers in particular — increasing? Answer is: Yes
IAS officers, who wield immense power in the government and also in society at large, have begun to feel that they are being physically assaulted, and on while discharging their duties, with the perpetrators getting unpunished. The growing number of incidents have only confirmed that. First, let’s reproduce excerpts of the letter written on October 12 by Indian Civil and Administrative Services (Central) Association in solidarity with the IRS-IT officer, Vikram Pagaria, who was assaulted last week during a tax raid in Madhya Pradesh:

IAS Association, two others suspect assault on Delhi chief secretary Anshu Prakash as “pre-planned”; AAP denies allegation
THREE bureaucrats’ associations including the Delhi IAS Association have suspected that the physical assault on chief secretary of Delhi, Anshu Prakash, was pre-planned as the meeting was convened at midnight and the chief secretary was called alone whereas there was a large number of MLAs of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party for the meeting at the chief minister’s camp office. In a resolution of three associations — IAS Association, DANICS Association, DASS Association — said on Tuesday that the meeting was called to pressurise the chief secretary to release…

IPS Association’s DNA jibe creates row; “Let’s not a friendly cricket match turn into a DNA test”, IAS Association retorts

| Victorious UP IPS cricket team (Courtesy: Twitter) |
A FRIENDLY cricket match between IAS XI and IPS XI in Lucknow during the weekend created a row after the IPS Association attributed its officers’ victory to its "DNA", something which the IAS Association did not take very kindly. It all began after the IPS XI trashed IAS XI by 9 wickets in a friendly match played during the IAS Week in Lucknow. IAS Week in UP is a regular event, and possibly is the largest of this kind in India. But the IPS Association posted this controversial tweet:

Bihar government is contemplating to hand over paper leak case to CBI to appease anger of senior IAS officers
WITH IAS officers’ revolt in Bihar against the arrest of their colleague and 1987 batch IAS Sudhir Kumar getting louder every passing day, the state government has been contemplating to hand over the case to the CBI as it could appease the anger of the top bureaucrats running the state administration. The revolt of the top bureaucrats in the state was palpable after the IAS officers decided not to take any verbal instructions from any higher office, including the office of the chief minister. And then on Sunday, about 50 IAS officers were seen…

Retired IAS and former coal secretary HC Gupta who refused to engage lawyers gets bail
IN AUGUST last year, former coal secretary Harish Chandra Gupta who was in jail in corruption cases related to allocation of coal blocks, became almost a hero when the IAS Association and senior IAS officers openly vouched for his honesty, further adding that if Gupta could go to jail, most of the other IAS should also be behind bars. His IAS batch mate of 1971 batch and former chief election commissioner Dr SY Quraishi went a step further, terming Gupta as one of the most honest officers “who lived like a sadhu”. On Tuesday morning, Gupta was…

UP IAS Association will have two IAS Weeks this calendar year thanks to the assembly election in the state scheduled to be held in early 2017. The UP IAS Association, possibly the most active among all state IAS associations, has decided to advance its celebration of 2017 IAS Week to December 1 to 4, 2016 because of elections, even as the last IAS Week took place only in March this year. Though many states have their own IAS associations, the one in Uttar Pradesh is not only the most active, but it…

7th Pay Commission rumours force IAS officers to get more active in social media
AS rumours of a possible recommendation by the 7th Central Pay Commission on pay parity of IPS, Indian Forest Service and other Group “A” officers with IAS getting louder, the IAS officers in particular have of late resorted to social media platforms in full force to argue that the “edge” that they have enjoyed till now must continue for a larger good of the nation. A large number of IAS officers have also written to cabinet secretary, the top bureaucrat of the country, arguing the same. Let’s first have the excerpts of blogs of a couple of young officers to see how they are presenting their case:

Mamata Banerjee’s trusted bureaucrat Gautam Sanyal’s promotion as principal secretary; story behind
WEST BENGAL chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s most trusted bureaucrat Gautam Sanyal was last month elevated as the principal secretary to chief minister after the state chief secretary finally issued the necessary order. It is not an ordinary promotion, at least for two reasons. First, Sanyal has become the first central secretariat service (CSS) officer (though retired) to get this coveted position. Secondly, this move is bound to create unease among IAS officers serving in West Bengal and outside. After all, principal secretary is a “cadre” post meant only for…
