Babu Marriage: Milind Bapna transferred to Gujarat cadre on the ground of marriage to Surabhi Gautam

Surabhi Gautam, IAS

Milind Bapna, 2017 batch Telangana cadre IAS, has been transferred from Telangana cadre to Gujarat cadre on grounds of marriage to his batchmate from Gujarat cadre — Surabhi Gautam. Originally belonging to Rajasthan’s Udaipur, Bapna secured 61st rank in civil services examination, 2016, and was allotted Telangana cadre. Before getting into IAS, he was working as a…
banker in a public sector bank. His father is also a banker and sister a chartered accountant. He did not take any coaching, something considered an odd among the UPSC aspirants, according to media reports published on him soon after he was selected as an IAS. Bapna succeeded in his third attempt.
The story of his spouse, Surabhi Gautam, is an extraordinary one — from being a Hindi medium student from a village school at Amdara, located in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district, to get selected as an IAS officer. A daughter of a lawyer father and teacher mother, Surabhi at times had to study with the light of a lantern. She pursued electronics and communications engineering before appearing for UPSC. For a year, she also worked as a scientist in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). She secured the first rank in Indian Engineering Service examination of 2013 exam and then the 50th rank in civil services examination of 2016. She was allotted the Gujarat cadre.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated news, Dr Raghav Langer, 2009 batch Uttarakhand cadre IAS, has been transferred from Uttarakhand cadre to Jammu and Kashmir cadre for a period of three years “on personal ground”.
